Beware! Dont try this at home!
I got curious and stuck my CO in the microwave to see if I could melt it a little bit so that the top was smooth. (My OCD runs rampant again!) But when it cooled it was as hard as a rock and I’m having trouble even chipping flakes off with a spoon!
It’s 3/4 full and in todays economy I hesitate to buy another one because it’s money I dont need to spend.

It will probably soften on it’s own as the weather warms and be spoonable again.
Thanks for the warning!

Hezzie, You can rewarm it so that it is soft enough to spoon out. I like mine liquid so I heat mine every time I need some. It won’t spoil by doing that!!

Sorry for the stupid question, but what is a CO?

It’s coconut oil – you can get refined, unrefined, and use it MANY different ways!

During the summertime, when it’s downright HOT in my kitchen, my coconut oil completely liquefied, just sitting in the kitchen cabinet. It re-solidified as soon as the weather cooled off of course. I don’t know that it’s been any more difficult to scrape a spoonful out of the jar after it re-solidified than it was before it melted, but then how hard it is depends a lot on how cool/warm the kitchen cabinet where I store it happens to be at the time.
When I use it to make protein bars, I melt some in the microwave before mixing with the other ingredients. When I put the bars in the fridge to harden, I end up with some of the coconut oil hardening on the outside of them in spots. Still, if I store the protein bars at room temperature, the oil that solidified on the outside of the bar becomes softer, and even melts again if the room is too warm.
In my experience, how hard the CO is really is a matter of how warm/cool the storage environment happens to be at the time, not whether it was melted in the microwave at one point or not.

I use it mainly for moisturizing, so since I don’t eat it, I dont mind the consistancy too much. But it’s hard to get at!

Hezzie, do you just rub it on your skin or add it to anything?
March 20th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Straight onto the skin- sometimes I towel off the excess, sometimes I keep rubbing!

You want to avoid the refined though.

Here’s my trick for wintertime moisturizing. I keep a small pot in my bathroom of CO, scooped out from the huge jug that’s in my kitchen.
In the mornings when I work out, I place the little CO pot (an empty cosmetic thingy with lid) on the floor vent while I’m working out, and the heat/air softens (almost melts) it. Then I take it to the bathroom when I’m done, and by the time I’m out of the shower, even though it’s hardened back a bit, it’s still smooth enuf to moisturize with. I do this most mornings in the winter — when I remember to.
I agree, trying to dig rock outta there is a pain.
This works pretty well.
