Finishing up week 2

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Hi gang, introduction time here.

I was originally on Atkins back in 1999, starting it when I feared what called the "30-40-50 problem." I was a guy approaching 30 years old with a 40 inch waist and weighing 250 pounds. I took a very serious approach to Atkins (zero cheating, living at near-induction for several months), and dropped from 248 to near 180. I kept the weight off for several years.

Alas, one cheat became another cheat became another, and here I am 10 years later with what I call the "40-40-50" problem. :-)

2 weeks ago I went back on induction, starting at around 245 give or take (My Wii fit and my scale seem to disagree!). After getting sick the first few days on induction (which I did back in ‘99 as well), I got over the hump of starting up and now am on day 13 down well over 10 pounds. I feel better, there’s just the slightest new looseness to my jeans, and I’m determined to get back down. My first goal is a weight of 220, which in BMI terms will place me below the threshold of overweight versus obese. Springtime usually equates to new forms of exercise (I love inline skating, even as a "fat guy" LOL).

Anyhow, a forum like this is great to help stay on track. I’ve been lurking for a while now and started participating now that I’m committed to be back on Atkins, the only WOE that’s really worked effectively for me.

Fat eaten?

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

This might seem like a silly question, and if you could direct me to another thread about this, I’d be grateful.

Ok,…lets say I’m in ketosis, I’m not eating too much protein, and I’m eating a generous amount of healthy oils/fat…. So what is happening to the fat I’m ingesting? Does it get burned first and then my body fat? Does it just go right through me? Does it turn into stored fat to be burned later? What’s the deal?

Please help me! Purty please … with cherries! (hehe)

I am so sorry to start yet another thread. I also have not had the time to get the Atkins book. I really hope to get it this weekend since I’ll have Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to relax. I hope to be able to read some.

Anyways, I have been SOOO tired this week and EXTREMELY busy. I get up at 6am to get ready, blah blah blah … in school by 9am, get out at 5pm (yes, 9-5 straight), home by 6-6:30pm depending on traffic, etc. I also still have to cook, clean, help my husband take care of animals, study and/or write papers, etc. BUSY!!

I desperately need ya’ll’s help. I REALLY want to start Induction so I can get started on this. Can ANYONE, SOMEONE please crank me out an Induction menu to get me started at least for the next week or 2 until I can get to that comfortable point of making my own, and giving me the time to read/understand the book, etc. I also hope to go grocery shopping this weekend. I need ideas that are fast (esp. for breakfast/lunch; dinner no longer than 30min or so) and inexpensive!

If ya’ll lived close, I’d give ya a free facial or haircut/shampoo. But, since majority doesn’t, I will love you forever! LOL! I would MORE than appreciate it. I’ve tried reading some information here & there but by the time I even start to get remotely close to a menu, my eyes start to slowly shut, HA!

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

PS. Oh yeah, I normally shop at Wal-Mart, Save A Lot, or Kroger. Any of those 3 places will do. (Save A Lot for chicken; the deals are awesome!) If you do give ideas & can give labels/brand types, I would loooove that.

Induction Blues

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Hello everyone, I’m new to the site and I’ve just started induction. Got off to a great start. Lost 3.5 lbs. in 3 days and then WHAMMY. No loss and today (day 8) I’m UP 1.5 lbs.

What gives?

From reading all the posts, I think I’m eating too much cheese and maybe not enough water. I had knee surgery two weeks ago and still can’t walk as much as I’d like.

Also, I’m on HRT and a diuretic for blood pressure.

Any ideas what to do???

Anyone ever had one of these days?

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I have been on Induction since Feb 2, 2009. I have lost 17lbs all together. I had a day like on Feb 10 or so where I cheated at my boss’ bday party, then got right back on track the next day. I have since done an excellent job on induction. Well, today I woke up, ate scrambled eggs with avocado slices and bacon. I ate a cheese stick for lunch and then I was just not sure what I wanted for supper. I couldn’t think of any low carb meals I wanted….so…I went to our local hotdog joint and got a hotdog with slaw and mayo…they have the best hotdogs EVER! I feel satisfied now and I know that tomorrow I can jump right back on induction…anyone else ever have days where you just have to break over?

Sugar-free jello…opinions?

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I am *thinking* of having sugar free jello on my birthday (tuesday) but wanted to take a little poll to see how many people have problems with jello ruining their WOE.

I have heard some people can eat it no problem and that the pectin is good for you and then others that it messes with them and can cause stall.. just looking for some peoples opinions on how they did with it because I would really like to have something special that day without cheating.

Thanks!
