For those who’ve lost quite a bit of weight …
And others who’ve lost a little
How did you keep on keepin’ on when you knew you had SOO far to go? I hope that makes sense. I am just at a point where my cravings are really bad and I’m thinking to myself about how much weight I have to lose – at least 150. Sometimes, I think what is the use?
So.. how did you keep going when you knew you had so much to lose? Thank you all. I’m just struggling this afternoon and not much is helping except for being here.
Thanks,
Ducky

For me, I could not look at the big picture, it was too overwelming!
I focused on each day, sometimes each hour when the cravings hit.
I wish I could be more help

It gets discouraging if you look at the total amount if you have a lot to lose. I just focus on the next size of jeans I can fit in. I would try on the next smaller size of jeans every week to see how much closer I was to being that size…. (getting it over the hips… being able to button.. being able to zip.. being able to sit down/breathe… being able to wear in public). My next smaller size jeans is always the goal I am working towards – not a number on the scale.. and not a size 10 jeans.. just one size down.

I started in May and I am 2lbs away from losing 100lbs. Here is how I kept going: I went to the doctors because I had a hernia and it just had to be repaired. First understand that usually when I go to a doctor he or she says something like I don’t think I have to tell you that you need to lose weight, that is obvious. Well this time was different. It was actually a surgeon that I went to and he said well, you have a choice. You can keep on going like you are going, eating the way you have been eating and live a very short life. Or you can lose weight and live a long, happy life. He said he would recommend the gastric bypass surgery for me. He said that only 1 in 4 patients who are morbidly obese, are able to lose weight on their own. Well, those words hit like a ton of bricks! I have two children and I want to be there for them so, I started ATKINS and have never looked back. If you look at it that way, you see things totally differently. Being obese, shortens your life. Life is too short anyways and you certainly don’t want to cut it back – Is there anything in the world that tastes THAT GOOD?????

For me at least, it gets easier as I go. With every bit of weight I lose or week I exercise, I feel better and better. I realized last week that I never get drowsy in the afternoon any more, and that I keep going until around 11:00 every night. I’m generally more cheerful as well.
On the days when I don’t lose weight (which can become weeks that I don’t lose weight) I can get fairly bummed out. And last weekend I was having terrible cravings, but I’ve discovered that it was the sugar free chocolates. I’m trying a week without them to see if my weight loss improves.
It’s a lifelong journey, Ducky. I started with 136 pounds to lose. Now I have 105 pounds to lose. I don’t think I’ll reach my goal weight and then forget about this WOE–it’s a way of life for me now. I’ll get to my goal when I get there… but the great thing about Atkins is that for the first time in many years, I feel certain that I WILL get there, eventually.
So hang in there and see if you don’t feel better in a week. Be sure to take good vitamins and get plenty of sleep! In a few more days, things will start to get better, and then you have that feeling of pride and the energy surge to keep you going.

Just think that the year or more is going to go by either way, you might as well be thin at the end, just keep picturing your goal.
Sometimes school gets really boring and hard too, but you do it to get your degree.

ducky
Constantly remind yourself that you are worth this.
I totally understand where you’re coming from. In the beginning, it all seemed so impossible for me to lose 165 pounds.
The good news is that with each pound I got closer to goal (I’m still a work in progress) how I felt about myself has improved tremendously. It really helps to imagine yourself at goal. Surround yourself with positive thoughts. Put up post-its if you have to. Write on your mirror in lipstick
Though it feels like a race most days, try to remember it’s not. It’s about getting healthy and practicing habits that will last us through a lifetime .
Hugs

The goal tastes better than any Krispy Kreme doughnut or any Oreo cookie. That is what keeps me going. The compliments, the happiness I feel, the healthy feeling, the glowing skin….all of that is better to me than anything else.

I tend to look at it like LadyLoL and frenchmaid.
As LadyLOL said……I just focus on my next milestone……whether it’s the next hole in my belt, a shirt size and even sometimes….just the way my jeans fit. I used to wear XXXL shirts…….now I go right to the L rack…..which still blows my mind.
But now I’m looking forward to being able to buy Mediums.
And if I DO happen to look too far ahead…..it’s only to tell myself that "come next spring, I want to be one of the people that DID something about their weight problem over the winter". You probably know as well as I do……how many times you’ve seen people in the spring that lost lots of weight over the winter and you just wished you had done the same thing. Well……your TURN is here now!!! This coming Spring…….
Be one of the ones who DID!!!
Just like frenchmaid said…….the time is going to pass either way. And you know if you let it pass without losing weight…..you’ll feel miserable knowing you SHOULD be doing something about it but you’re not. And sticking to it and losing weight can be can be miserable too. Either option has a certain amount of "MISERABLENESS" to it…….so you might as well pick the one that will make you thinner in the end.

When I hit goal I will have lost more than my goal weight. I can not think of that. I just have to look at today.
I look at that my clothes are bigger. My ankles and legs use to swell and they would hurt. Now they are so little I am amazed. They don’t hurt every night like they use to.
I just try to get through that craving. I think about the carbs that I would be eating and what I am throwing away. It will take me days to get back if I cave to the craving. If I come back at all.
I lost about 61 lbs on this before. I could buy clothes at WalMart. Granted they were still plus size but it was a big deal to me. I quit this WOE and gained it all back. I was lucky I only gained 2 extra pounds but I am back at the start again.
I am doing great. Somedays are harder than others.
The first few days of induction are the worst. Just keep going. You can do induction for 14 days and then see how you feel. If you are like the rest of us. You will be lighter and feel great.
I hope this helps.
30 pounds gone in 6 weeks all because of this WOE.

What I do is not dwell on how mush I have to lose. I just take one day at a time. It took time to gain the weight…and it’s going to take time to get it off. All I know is that I feel much better. The first couple of days were difficult for me…I got through them. Something clicked in my head that I could do this…and I have. I said that I wanted to take control of my life and to be healthier. Those two things keep me motivated. There is no way in he$$ that I’m giving this woe/wol up. I deserve the best…and this is the best for me. You should give this woe/wol a couple more days… I believe it will be the best decision you ever make
