OMG!!!!!

Just for funsies I threw into FitCarb what my daily eating was like and I could not believe it!!!

On an average day I was consuming 4254 calories, and I am sure that I didn’t put every little thing in like all of the margarine and such. That included 582 net carbs.

The difference?

Well, today I consumed 1297 calories and 17 net carbs.

I could not believe it all. What an eye opener that was. It just makes me want to work even harder with my new lifestyle change.

So, how about all of you? How big of a difference is your daily intake of foods now that you are low-carbing it?

Isn’t it amazing how many calories you can eat in a day?

A few years ago I plugged in some numbers into a web site somewhere and it told me how many calories a day I had to eat a day just to maintain the weight I was at. It was around 4500.
Sounds like it should have been pretty easy to lose a couple of pounds.

  2. Visitor Says:

  3. Visitor Says:

    WOW!!

Second…how did you make it on 1297 cals!

  4. Visitor Says:

Mine used to be up there with the rest of them, but now I am running between 1350 and 1600. I am having to force myself to eat dinner because I am not hungry.

  5. Visitor Says:

Calories are tricky lil’ buggers, they are in every thing.

I eat about 1500 a day, not including the creamer in my coffee and the pat or two of butter a day.

I use FitDay EVERYDAY, it keeps me in check.

I am glad you had a calorie awakening, after all, you can not eat a gazillion calories and still loose beyond a certin point, low carb or not, calories still count at some point.

OMG

I’m sitting here wanting to cry. I went "My own way" for a few months and look where it got me! 9 more pounds and I’m back where I originally started a few years ago. I am trying to figure out where I went wrong and basically I just eat too much. I quit smoking last March but really didn’t start gaining more weight back until the last few months. I do well and then I binge and I say "well, I already ruined it for today, may as well start again tomorrow". I then proceed to pig out and IT IS ALWAYS WITH SOME SORT OF SUGARY FOOD!!. I must be a sugar addict. I cannot control it. This has been going on for months. I am so depressed I can’t stand myself. I am so afraid of being hungry. I like bread, I like sugar, I LIKE FOOD. Does anyone have some magic words that will help. All your weight loss stories are inspiring and I am gung ho after reading them but then "poof!" I somehow talk myself into eating what I shouldn’t and the pattern continues….

I was down to 185 at one time

I could have posted this and it would reflect my situation on many occasions. Your certainly not alone…..

Im sure there will be loads of wise words from the membership here

  2. Visitor Says:

When I told my doctor I just like food. She said well thats not why you keep eating too much of it, I like food too!! Are there emotional reasons why you are binging? I think its helped me a lot to deal with some of my emotional issues through counselling and with the help of anti-depressants to keep on this WOE this last month and to want to keep going.

  3. Visitor Says:

I just posted something similar a couple days ago. I’m struggling too but, like someone said to me, it’s not about motivation or willpower – it’s about just doing it. Even if you don’t feel like it, do it anyway. With time and weightloss, motivation will come but until then, just start plugging away. Put one foot in front of the other and just do it.

Set small goals for yourself as well. Mine is that my head will not hit the pillow at night until I’ve done 30 minutes of exercise. It can be 10 minutes 3 times a day but one way or another, I will exercise 30 minutes a day.

Also, get rid of the junk in your house. If you’re like me, I can’t have it anywhere near me. I think I’ll be fine but then in a weak moment, I cave and it send me down a slippery slope that can take weeks, sometimes months to recover from.

Also, for me, it really helps to take coconut oil. I put 1T in my morning coffee and it really helps curb my appetite. Plus, it’s really healthy for you

Ultimately, you have to stop lying to yourself. You have to stop justifying the M&Ms, the cake, the cookies etc… We tell ourselves horrible things – like just one won’t matter, or as you said, "I cheated so I might as well just go for it and start again tomorrow". Stop lying to yourself. Even if you screw up, make it one screw up and make sure the next thing you put in your mouth puts you right back on plan.

You can do it – we all can. We just have to want it bad enough.

Magic words? Well the definition of Magick is bending and shaping reality. So my words of wisdom is that Sugar only controls you if YOU allow it to. You ARE in control! You are the only one that can do this… and YES you can do this.

It’s something you have to choose to do! You obviously have that ability.. you did it with cigarettes.

We all are rooting for you here!!!

    Timothy

  5. Visitor Says:

I agree with Sillyme, you may want to look at underlying emotional reasons…

There are always reasons why we sabotage ourselves. Keep in mind though, even though food makes you feel good at that moment, afterwards you will feel worse because you strayed off your initial plan.

Stop punishing yourself, and start loving yourself by getting back on track and staying there!

I am the queen of cheats and stalls: I lost a lot of weight in 2005, and then in the last 4 months or so gained a lot back. Poof! Just like that. I stopped liking myself and started eating. Out of control really. Once I realised it was because of an underlying reason, I dealt with that, and my desire to cheat. Now I know I’ll stay on track… Just because I decided to love myself!!!

You can do this!!! There is so much support here, come check in regularly, we’ll be right here cheering you on towards your goal!!!!

    xxx.

  6. Visitor Says:

    I empathize with you.
There are no magic words, no magic formula.

When I go off-plan, it’s sugar. And when I’m off plan, I’m not any happier, just always hungry.

If you fear hunger, you’ve got to make a committment to yourself to get into ketosis. You can do it for a week, right? Two weeks, sure!

The best thing to do would be to get on plan and stay on plan until you reach goal. But what if you don’t? It doesn’t mean you failed. It means you stumbled.

Commit NOW. Not tomorrow, not next week. Now. Commit right now for the rest of February. No matter what, you can do it for the rest of February, right?

Then, on March 1, see if you can commit for March. If you slip up, start over ASAP.

If you’re like me, you don’t feel any better off plan, you probably feel worse….and hungry all the time.

You have to do it for YOU. And you can!

  7. Visitor Says:

I don’t really agree that there are no magic words, but I think everyone’s magic words are as unique and individual as they are. Actually, I think it’s more of a magic question….

Mine is "which do you like better, wearing your size 6 jeans or eating that piece of insert carb item here?"

Someone with kids might say "do I want that piece of cake or do I want to live to see my child grow up and have children of their own?"

I think you need to look within yourself and find your own magic words.

    Good luck and welcome!

  8. Visitor Says:

I wonder if you have low blood sugar dips like I do? They cause tremendous cravings (cause your body needs food and your system is having trouble releasing the sugars).

If you can just start your day low carb….it really reduces the cravings. Get past breakfast, and you can do lunch. Get past lunch, and you can handle dinner. Then all of the sudden you’ve made it thru your first day. And after a few days, the cravings really do go down!

Also, like wildflowermama says, get rid of the junk & temptations. I cannot keep any sort of pasta in my house, because I will actually eat it raw, and can’t stop myself (and same with p*t**o ch*p*).

Good luck…you know you can do it Go shopping and get yourself some low carb foods (eggs, sausage, meat, etc) and have some ready prepared to tide you through those I want to cheat moments.

I feel so much less hungry every day now than I did just a few weeks ago, when I was eating to my heart’s content and gaining weight.

  9. Visitor Says:

I just get into ketosis and my appetite stays in control. Then I plan well ahead for ALL meals and snacks so I always have healthful choices around.

Magic words? No. Magic Bullet? Ketosis. It may be that ‘going your own way’ led you to choosing craving triggers. Pick a valid LC plan and let the science work for you.

  10. Visitor Says:

Been there, done that many times over. The only real way to continue to lose and then keep it off is to change your LIFE. That’s what I know and realize but still struggle with. There is no such thing as "I’m going to lose this fat and then eat the way I want again." I wished it worked that way, but it doesn’t. My problem is, when I start to eat pizza (or anything that tastes GOOD), I can’t stop and my portions are out of control. Your story sounds just like many here, so remember you are not alone. Just STOP when you sabbotage yourself, continue to eat better for the rest of the day, and check in here. Even if you are just lurking, it will give you the reassurance you need to keep going!

OMG!!!

My coworker last night gave me an article on lowcarb diets, hahaha i thought, gosh WTH is she doing?? She handed me this article with a chocolate bar in hand….heehee

So anyways,,, i decided to read it today, and it is the stupidest observation from a doc. that i have ever read!!! Everything in it was such a misconception!!! Here is the 6 points the doc trys to make…lol

1. Most of the world lives on carbohydrates an most of the world is not obese.

2. Weight loss is not the same thing as fat loss. ( i wonder what my 70 pound loss came from then…?? thats alot of water weight…lol)

3. Low carb diets are low in calories…..(OK, ROFL!!!)

he says, Quote: Thats how they work, although naturally the authors dont tell you that. Some of the authors of these books say if your insulin resistant and you eat carbs, they can make you fat. You are no more likely to gain weight than anyone else simply because you have insulin resistance…(me laughing) The fact is that when you start with many of the low carboyhdrate diets your consuming somewhere between 800-1200 calories a day….(heatha again is ROFL!!) Maintenance levels average is around 1500 per day. The average american daily intake is about 2500 calories per day. Will you lose weight if you eat 1000 fewer calories a day? Of course you will. ( ok, heatha used to be almost anorexic on a low fat diet, im eating more than ever before, tons and tons of calories, and burning fat like crazy, i think this guy is crazy!, im definatley eating more than 1500 calories a day…lol)

4. Your body needs carboydrates..

( i guess i dont need carbs, im doing fine, and yes i eat carbs, just not high carbs)
he goes on to say….

A low carb diet can cause the scale to go down several pounds within days. Are you getting skinny? No, your simply losing water weight. when you go into ketosis, your hunger goes down. (mine has sped up..lol) When you eat fewer than 40-50 grams of carbs a day ketosis results and the appetite decreses. As a result, you eat less, so your calorie intake goes down some more and you lose more weight. There are a number of reasons why the scale goes down during a low carb diet, unfortunately its not just because your losing fat….(hahahahhahaha…….i must have peed out 70 pounds of water…..thats how i got into a size 7/8 pants….lol)

5. Low carb diets are short-term, not long term.

it turns out that the low carb dieters are starting to put their weight back on again at the one year mark. It appears that the low carb approach offers no benefit over the more traditional reduced fat method when it comes to losing weight. Another reason that lc diets are not long-tern answer is becuase you simply get tired of them. All the steak and bacon you want sounds good (and by his standards low cal too…lol) but your body wants carbs. Whats more, low carb diets can make you constipated, tired, and nauseous.(carbs make me tired, constipated, and nauseous…lol)

6. Its hard for carbs to become fat on your body. (why not??? hahahha)
(too long to write, but he sounds dumb.)

Just thought i would share. Wish i had time to write the whole article, but thought i would throw in some of his key arguments….lol)

That’s rediculous. I get so sad when I see someone obese defend low calorie diets or attack low carb. I wish people would reconsider what they’ve always believed to be right for the sake of better health.

  2. Visitor Says:

First of all….Heatha, your new avi pic is gorgeous!!!

Wow! Your friend’s doc said all this???? Maybe she should have him check out this site. I’ve lost over 120 pounds and been eating LC since June 2003. Alot longer than the year he spoke of. I eat ALOT of calories too. Way more than the 1500 or so he thinks we eat.

  3. Visitor Says:

  4. Visitor Says:

    Huh. Water weight. Huh.

That’d explain why I go to the bathroom all the time.

But, by this theory, did eating carbs make me retain 50lbs of water?

  5. Visitor Says:

hahha heather……….i had 70 pounds of water weight lost…..my clothes are alot smaller, and i shrank!!! BTW….did i mention that i have TONS of energy!!!lol

thanks Xfatchick!!! Your avi looks awesome too!!! Love your legs!!! Wanna trade?

  6. Visitor Says:

Where in the heck does this doctor base his study upon, Ethiopoa?!!!!!

Most of the people I see around me could stand to lose some weight!

With articles like that who needs the funny pages?

  7. Visitor Says:

Dang do you mean that the 134 pounds I’ve lost was all water? Heh if that’s the case shouldn’t I be starting to look like a prune? I’m glad my doctor supports me, in fact he recommended this WOE to me.

  8. Visitor Says:

I swear man, what is with peoples mission to combat and naysay the LC lifestyle…Jeez, yeah the 30 pounds I lost are all water weight, how-freaking-ridiculous.

OH, I know what the problem coming from the scientific/medical community is…People becoming healthy hinders the flow of research money, and the doctors will receive less business.

  9. Visitor Says:

You know… my GYN asked me how I lost so much weight so quickly. I said "Atkins" and cringed waiting for the lecture.

His response: "Do whatever works for you. And obviously this works for you, so keep doing it! NO diet is more unhealthy than being obese."

    That guy’s a real tard. I <3 my GYN.

  10. Visitor Says:

Oh well, you are proof of what works. By the way, you are quite a pretty young thing. KUTGW! Granny

I thought this sounded like fun so I went into fitday and punched up an average Saturday before this woe and got.
    7,338 calories
    40 percent fat
    50 percent carbs
    10 percent protein.
I average 1,400 calories now and am less hungry than then.

  2. Visitor Says:

What a huge difference. I am afraid to go put what I used to eat in.

Maybe after I lose some weight I will do it.

  3. Visitor Says:

Well, I don’t know how much my daily calorie/carb amount was in the past ( I refuse to even go there out of fear )

but, a few months ago I took my son to CArl’s Jr…and he ordered a 1 pound hamburger from there; regular fries; and a medium coke…just for fun we came home and went to the website and plugged everything in to see how many calories he ate…well it came out to be a whopping 2200 calories/about 150 carbs We freaked could not even believe it!!! He is 14 and very active runs cross country for his high school..and even he was surprised how much it was…and without fail he always eats again before the night is over with, not to mention his breakfast/lunch/after school snack(I hope he keeps his metabolism for the rest of his life)…that night he passed on a late night snack who’da thunk it

I was shocked of course I put in our average saturday meals so it would be extra high .
    biscuits and sausage gravy
    4 slice bacon
    hashbrowns
    oj and coffee
    lunch:burrito w/chili cheese and sourcreamand 1-2 pepsi
    Dinner:Chicken fried Steak,1 cup potatoes and gravy,corn W/ butter.1-2 dinner rolls
Snacks for the movie:nachos and 1 icecream sandwhich
    2 pepsi

    Adds up to 7000+

  5. Visitor Says:

OMG! I did a typical pre-low carb meal for me and this is how it came out:

    Cals: 3065
    Fat: 169
    Carb: 305
    Protein: 88

    YIKES!!!

  6. Visitor Says:

what we were consuming on a daily basis on average. It has taught me a lot. It was sure a hell of a shock to me. And I didn’t even put in a day like the ones where we would eat fench toast or pancakes and lots of other carby foods for the day, like say Thanksgiving. I can’t even imagine and then my hubby is in the background telling me to go plug our normal Thanksgiving day meal in and see what it comes out to. hmmmmmmmmm I wonder if he is trying to tell me something?

    GQ

  7. Visitor Says:

I just did FitDay for our regular Thanksgiving meal. It came out to being 1824 calories, 62 Fat, 263 Carbs, 22 Fiber and 59 protein.

All of that included a piece of my homemade Ultimate Pumpkin Pie with Cool Whip topping, cranberries, sweet potato, green beans, and my homemade dressing. It also includes ice tea to drink.

It tells me that I have to rethink Thanksgiving dinner for us. This has taught me a lot.

  8. Visitor Says:

I am reading Protein Power Lifeplan and this was covered in there. A lady wrote to complain that she only lost 4 pounds her first month. Her journaled foods added up to over 5000 calories. a day. It was a wonder she lost anything. If she had added just 400 calories of carbs to that she easily could have gained 30 pounds.

Although low carb is not calorie counting we can see how we have to really use good judgement in making our food choices.

  9. Visitor Says:

    An eye opener, isn’t it?

Of course no one wants to be a slave to logging every bite, but it can sure be a useful tool for a week or two (or, if you’re compulsive like me, months!)

When I started my "final" low carb program where I finally reached goal, I kept track of carbs in my head. Okie dokie. Then someone on this site posted about http://www.fitday.com and I logged in my daily totals … which I was SURE were about 17-18. Wrong. Try 32!!!

I’m thankful for Fitday. It’s amazing how the little things add up quick, quick, QUICK!
