extension of menstrual cycle on LC?

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Hi all… This may be TMI so please stop reading if you’re easily grossed out…

Yes it’s a slightly awkward question. I started low carb on december 26. I’m on the Pill. I got my period like normal 3 1/2 weeks ago while I was on the placebo. Stopped the placebo to continue my regular pill. I got about halfway through the first week, then started spotting. I’ve been "spotting" for the past two weeks, but it’s been really dark, more like lining than anything else.

Uh… has this happened to anybody else? Any suggestions, or just call the doc?

Help! Can CLA/GLA mess with my cycle?

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

I am having some breakthrough bleeding mid-cycle (it’s more like brownish discharge than blood flow though right now, very minimal)…this has NEVER happened to me before. I have been on birth control pills for the past two years and have not had this happen from taking them. I also do not think it is because of missing a pill (I did miss one 3 days ago before the bleeding started but I have missed a pill on occasion before and this did not happen)

I did start taking the CLA/GLA combo 3 days ago. That’s the only recent change I can think of which may effect my body. Do you think this could have any effect on my cycle? Maybe it is interacting with my BC somehow.

Question about menstrual cycle

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Has anyone had a problem with a missed period? I have been on this WOE for two months and was fine the first month, but this month it didn’t come. I am on birth control and have had no problems with them before. I have not missed a pill or anything like that, but I have increased my strength/weight training. Could that have something to do with it?

What happens during the menstrual cycle?

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

1. At the beginning of a period, a hormone called Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is released from the pituitary gland. FSH stimulates a follicle, on the surface of the ovary, to grow. Contained within the follicle is the developing egg.
2. During the next two weeks the egg grows and matures, and as it does so, a female hormone called estrogen is produced in increasing quantities by the ovary. The estrogen in turn enters the bloodstream and feeds back to a part of the brain above the pituitary gland where it is recognized by special receptors. If enough estrogen has been produced, this feed back process decreases the production of FSH.
3. Rising estrogen levels also trigger the output of another hormone from the pituitary gland called Luteinizing Hormone (LH). This leads to the release of the mature egg from the follicle. The escape of the egg from the ovary is known as ovulation.
4. After ovulation, the empty follicle forms a structure called the corpus luteum, which produces the second female hormone, called progesterone. The progesterone levels go up after ovulation, and maintain the endometrium in a state of readiness to receive a fertilized egg. If the fertilized egg does not implant itself in the endometrium, the progesterone level falls and a period commences. The whole cycle now begins once more.

CLA and Menstrual Cycle

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Hi, I have a question for all CLA users.

My TOM is late this month (took a PG test, negative) and I was wondering if it could be from taking Tonalin. I have been taking it since the beginning of February. I had my period in February (it was a couple of days late), but nothing has happened for March yet. I’m having the usual symptoms..cramps, bloating, tender breasts, but nothing is happening.

The Tonalin is the only change I have made as far as meds/supplements go.

Think the Tonalin could be the reason? I’m grasping at straws cause I really need TOM! lol

Thanks in advance for your help/advice.
