Questions for those who’ve quit or are quitting sugar, grains etc

Friday, March 20th, 2009

How does for ex Stevia affect you? I’m thinking mainly about cravings, not weight loss effect. My thinking now is to avoid any kind of sugar (sugar, honey, maple syrup, dried fruit etc) except raw fruit. I’ve never used artificial sweeteners and never would (hey, health obsessed vegetarian for ten years ). For baking I just use cocoa, cream, vanilla powder or raw fruit. It’s not the real thing but it satisfies my longing for festiveness without me starting to binge. Is Stevia a good choice or does it set off cravings for you? I’ve never tried it so I know very little of its effects and now is not really a good time for me to experiment having just come out of the sugar daze.

And what about sprouted grain products, like sprouted bread? Do any of you eat sprouted grains and how does it affect you?

The reason I’m asking is that I’m sensing eating no sugar and no grains like bread is going to give me a "hollow" feeling at times like something is missing from my eating (it already has), and if there are foods that brighten up your eating experience without leading to binges, they might be worth trying.

I tried making oopsies yesterday and though they looked lovely mine tasted more like mini-omelettes than bread. Good yes, but still omelettish.

How do I Freeze Tofu? Do I have to drain it etc?

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I was reading last week that freezing Tofu and then thawing it helped it to not fall apart while cooking. How do I freeze it? Can I just put the Tofu pack in the freezer or do I have to drain it?

What exercises etc. did you do?

Hi all,

JAL had a thread that brought back many memories.

Many folks are now displaced with the economy and have to take jobs that are so different that adjustments to lifestyle must be made.

Example:

In the trades I needed to wear the right clothes eat right and stretch so I could build my body up enough to do the job.

In cooking I had to drink water and get rest and not sit around drinking beer after work every nite.

In warehouse work I had to do strength training to keep at a level that allowed me to perform at expected numbers. Similar to a NFL workout everyday at work. 800mg advil-Icy-Hot all over.

Yes, fond memories but real hard and really real at the time.

Perhaps other members have had to go through times at a job that required an effort to be stronger or better physically?

There may be many here. How did you do it? What did you do to make it happen? Men and women.

How did you survive job change so you could put food on the table.

Just Ordered my First DaVinci Syrups, etc.

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

I’ve never been able to find the Lorann extracts, or Davinci sugar-free syrups locally, so I went ahead and ordered some from a low carb store in Toronto. I can’t wait to play with them!

I really wanted some of the KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce, but they were out of stock

Anyhow, I know that I’ll have fun with my new "toys", lol.

Fav. Low-Carb Meal @ Chili’s, TGI Friday’s, Ruby Tuesday’s, Apple Bee’s, etc.

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

I go out to eat frequently, and I was just wondering what everyone’s fav. low carb meal to get was for restaurants like Chili’s, Friday’s, etc.

At Chili’s I usually get the Wings over Buffalo, which only has 4 g carbs with the blue cheese dressing!

In your daily menu, what percentage of protein, vs fat, vs carbs do you generally have? No particular reason, just curious. TIA!
