I’m sure this has been addressed before, but searching the boards for things like "fitday" yields pretty overwhelming results. I’m wondering what people consider the pros and cons of the different menu logging/food tracking websites.
I currently use Fitday and have for a very long time, but several things about it fill me with impotent rage, or at least abject frustration. I think the search engine is incredibly non-intuitive, antiquated, and inflexible. I hate hate hate that it logs me out like every five seconds. And yes, I have considered buying Fitday PC, but guess what? I have a mac, and the software isn’t multi-platform. I DO love the simple layout and weirdly soothing color scheme, and think it’s extremely easy to navigate aside from the search function.
The only other site I have consistently tried is SparkPeople, which is just too splashy and community oriented and OMG-we’re-having-so-much-fun-counting-calories for me. I don’t need (invariably ill-advised, low-fat) menu suggestions or buddies or perky email updates — I just want a no-nonsense way to keep track of what I eat. When I did Weight Watchers I loooved their online food tracker (login never timed out, extremely comprehensive and easily searchable database of foods, useful search filters, recipe calculator, pleasant interface, ad-free), but unfortunately it came with a hefty monthly fee and a non-ideal WOE (as in, it calculated WW points instead of fat/carbs/cals/etc.).
Thoughts? Suggestions? I really, really want to like Fitday, so if you have any suggestions about how to make it more workable that would also be appreciated. I understand that with any website I’m going to be entering a lot of custom foods, but I would prefer that basic food items be easier to find.
