Confused over Nutrition info. on item on Linda Sue’s site.

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Alright, so I am somewhat confused here. I was going to make Moonchild’s Cheeseburger Bacon Quiche but with ground turkey instead. So, I put all the ingredients into fitday with the ground turkey, and it tells me that the nutrition info is almost DOUBLE what is listed here on the page for it being made with ground beef. And yes, for the same amount of servings. Now I’m confused, Am I doing something wrong with calculating the info. or is fitday really off, or are these the wrong nutritin info for the recipe?

Here is the nutrition info. for with ground beef for 8 servings:
Per 1/8 Recipe: 296 Calories; 26g Fat; 13g Protein; 2g Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; 2g Net Carbs

And here is what fitday.com tells me it is with ground turkey subbed for the beef:
382.8 Calories; 22g fat; 18.83 protein; 5.21g carbs

Im so confused by all the anti atkins info

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

what is the truth? for every article and study you find that praises atkins..there are double that bashing the atkins approach and I have read some horrible personal stories about atkins as well…high cholesterol, heart disease, high blood pressure, high sodium…I just dont get it…

What the book says makes perfect sense to me but I already have high cholesterol and I dont want to make it worse….

I was thinking of doing a healthier version of atkins like…chicken breasts..fish…salads…and olive oil instead of butter and other fats….

Please help me? tell me if you have gotten a check up and have had improved cholesterol numbers ? anything…I am just so torn thanks so much guys!!

Conflicting info on Induction in the book

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Not sure if this has been discussed or not but we always hear "read the book" well that’s exactly what I did yesterday and found some conflicting information regarding the Induction phase in the DANDR 2002 edition.

On page 121 Chapter 11 is the beginning mention of starting Induction there is the long list of allowed food and rules to follow. Meats, salad veggies, acceptable cheeses, other veggies as well as "special category foods" like olives, avacado, sour cream etc.

Alright you’re reading this chapter and you’re geared and ready to go, Now some stop there and some like myself continue to read which brings me to
Chapter 19 page 232 where Dr.Atkins gives you a sample "Induction Menu" here is where it becomes confusing among the "allowed" list of foods mentioned in Chapter 11 there is also……………………………..

Controlled carb strawberry shake for a snack (p.233)
Two Bran-a-Crisp crackers (p.234)
Zucchini Nut Bread (p.235) which has Atkins bake mix and nuts in it
Controlled Carb Vanilla Shake (p.235)

Does anyone see where the confusion comes in? So many push "read the book" and now I am beginning to wonder if those same people have actually read the book because I have never seen anyone mentioned the above when telling others to read the book.

So when others say they are drinking the shakes, low carb mixes, nuts etc.. and doing Induction why are so many up in arms telling them they’re not doing Induction when in fact it is part of Induction according to Chapter 13.

How does one explain the two very different "Inductions" in the same book written by Dr. Atkins himself?

Before anyone comes in here thinking this is a thread for war let me tell you it’s not, I have followed the Atkins plan myself think it is a wonderful diet with lots of benefits so I am not bashing this plan at all. I did not make this up, the new Atkins Nutritional folks didn’t make this up and no one on this board made this up.

It is in the very book we are always told to read before doing the plan which I have to admit I have never done sure I skimmed through it but never really read the entire book so when I came upon the second Induction in the book I’m left with questions and would love to hear from the Atkins veterans who have read the entire book.

What is your take on Chapter 13 (p.232) Induction sample menu with foods that are supposedly not allowed until OWL and thereafter?

Thank you all in advance for responding to this post I appreciate everyone’s input and maybe it can help out some newbies and some veterans as well.
