Questions for those who’ve quit or are quitting sugar, grains etc

Friday, March 20th, 2009

How does for ex Stevia affect you? I’m thinking mainly about cravings, not weight loss effect. My thinking now is to avoid any kind of sugar (sugar, honey, maple syrup, dried fruit etc) except raw fruit. I’ve never used artificial sweeteners and never would (hey, health obsessed vegetarian for ten years ). For baking I just use cocoa, cream, vanilla powder or raw fruit. It’s not the real thing but it satisfies my longing for festiveness without me starting to binge. Is Stevia a good choice or does it set off cravings for you? I’ve never tried it so I know very little of its effects and now is not really a good time for me to experiment having just come out of the sugar daze.

And what about sprouted grain products, like sprouted bread? Do any of you eat sprouted grains and how does it affect you?

The reason I’m asking is that I’m sensing eating no sugar and no grains like bread is going to give me a "hollow" feeling at times like something is missing from my eating (it already has), and if there are foods that brighten up your eating experience without leading to binges, they might be worth trying.

I tried making oopsies yesterday and though they looked lovely mine tasted more like mini-omelettes than bread. Good yes, but still omelettish.

JuliaL or anyone else who knows about BFFM

I have been doing this for 3 weeks now and am having a hard time with scheduling meals and workouts. I want to eat my carbs on either side of my workout and usually have apple or some kind of fruit on one side and oatmeal on the other or a whole grain pita with meat etc. Anyway, My workout is generally 1-1 1/2 hours, and if I eat too close before the workout I get side aches with running (usually do that first) but if I wait too long to work out after I eat then I am running into my next meal! How did you get the scheduling thing figured out.

I typically get up at 4am to work then wait until about 6:30-7 to eat my first meal and I am wondering if I should be eating something right away when I get up? This 5-6 meals a day thing is seriously freaking me out! The nutritionist that I am working with keeps telling me I am being too anal and I know that is a tendancy of mine, to go overboard, but I also am a realist and realize that something like this needs to be planned. Planning for 5 meals a day is a real doozy too! Do you think that yogurt with a scoop of protein powder (plain yogurt) is a good "meal"?

Supplements which you should or shoudn’t refrigerate

Due to lots of interesting threads on supplements and some slight nudging from some inspirational posters <don’t look at me with those innocent "baby deer" eyes – you know who I am talking to…> I have begun investing in some basic supplements to deal with candida issues and some issues that I have been informed that I probably don’t even know that I have…

Now the trick will be to remember to take them. Since my probiotics MUST be refrigerated, I figured I would just keep everything together in the fridge.

In a thread started by Ricardolowcarbo many peope said that it’s actually beneficial to keep fish oil in the fridge – keeps the burping down (I don’t have that problem)

What about D3?

There was another supplement that was talked about in another thread and the people were saying that it does not do well in humid weather (must keep that "keep dry" pillow in the jar or else. Anyone know what that would be and would it be ok in the fridge?

I know you can keep ACV in the cupboard but does it hurt anything to keep it in the fridge? I actually made up a batch of crystal light/ACV lemonade and have it in the fridge is that ok (aside from the AS)

Although I have not mentioned a certain supplement that doesn’t necessarily mean I might not eventually us it – if there is a supplement that absolutely should or should not be refrigerated, I would appreciate that information as well.

Taubes GCBC for Dummies? or Cliff Notes?

Hi there!

I have the book and ADORE it, but it can be a bit unwieldy for the uninitiated.

Are there any condensed versions or bullet points out there? Links? I’m looking for "talking points" to counter the mainstream misinformed masses.

Thanks!

EZSWEETZ or Fiberfit

I posted this in the main lobby and maybe should have posted it here to begin with.

Has anyone tried both? I don’t know which one to buy. It seems EZ SWEETZ is stronger, what do you all think? Which is a better buy? Oh and my stomach can handle almost anything. I’m that fortunate
