Questions for those who’ve quit or are quitting sugar, grains etc

Friday, March 20th, 2009

How does for ex Stevia affect you? I’m thinking mainly about cravings, not weight loss effect. My thinking now is to avoid any kind of sugar (sugar, honey, maple syrup, dried fruit etc) except raw fruit. I’ve never used artificial sweeteners and never would (hey, health obsessed vegetarian for ten years ). For baking I just use cocoa, cream, vanilla powder or raw fruit. It’s not the real thing but it satisfies my longing for festiveness without me starting to binge. Is Stevia a good choice or does it set off cravings for you? I’ve never tried it so I know very little of its effects and now is not really a good time for me to experiment having just come out of the sugar daze.

And what about sprouted grain products, like sprouted bread? Do any of you eat sprouted grains and how does it affect you?

The reason I’m asking is that I’m sensing eating no sugar and no grains like bread is going to give me a "hollow" feeling at times like something is missing from my eating (it already has), and if there are foods that brighten up your eating experience without leading to binges, they might be worth trying.

I tried making oopsies yesterday and though they looked lovely mine tasted more like mini-omelettes than bread. Good yes, but still omelettish.

Quit smoking, now food addicted!

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

I don’t know if anyone else has experienced this problem, I quit smoking in 1999 and have been gaining weight steadly ever since. I did not have problems with weight, prior to quitting smoking.

It seems as if food has become my addiction, and once I start, I can’t stop!
I love all bad food, and will eat it until it’s gone

I am good all day at work, my problems start in the evening, it’s like I "graze" from the time I get home until bedtime!

I hate being like this, I hate myself for having no self control, quitting smoking was far easier then controling my eating!!

I find low carb dieting is the only way I can lose weight, but it’s sticking to it that is so very difficult.

Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated

I have a really bad cold this week, so Tues. i got the patch. I had 2 puffs in aggravation on Weds am..but nothing since.

Its hard because I also started induction this week after being out on a binge for 6 months (ive lost 7lbs since monday) but then again, maybe it will keep me from freaking eating instead of smoking.

So no sugar, starches, no cigarrettes, and im sick, and im on my TOM…oh my gosh…what was i thinking!!!

ALLEN CARR QUIT SMOKING METHOD

Anyone who is familiar or successful with this I would appreciate hearing about. I have 2 versions of the book [the same I guess, but one from London sent to me long ago from poster here] but I can’t find the other one after the books have been sitting here for 2 years unread, and finally starting to read it, and would like any feedback possible. I don’t see any New York clinics that i can call [in the back of book] with any questions, only Foreign countries, and wondering if they’ve since opened in NY or any local area to me which wouldn’t require a long distance call to have access on a regular basis with any questions that I may have along the way. Thanks.
