Questions for those who’ve quit or are quitting sugar, grains etc

Friday, March 20th, 2009

How does for ex Stevia affect you? I’m thinking mainly about cravings, not weight loss effect. My thinking now is to avoid any kind of sugar (sugar, honey, maple syrup, dried fruit etc) except raw fruit. I’ve never used artificial sweeteners and never would (hey, health obsessed vegetarian for ten years ). For baking I just use cocoa, cream, vanilla powder or raw fruit. It’s not the real thing but it satisfies my longing for festiveness without me starting to binge. Is Stevia a good choice or does it set off cravings for you? I’ve never tried it so I know very little of its effects and now is not really a good time for me to experiment having just come out of the sugar daze.

And what about sprouted grain products, like sprouted bread? Do any of you eat sprouted grains and how does it affect you?

The reason I’m asking is that I’m sensing eating no sugar and no grains like bread is going to give me a "hollow" feeling at times like something is missing from my eating (it already has), and if there are foods that brighten up your eating experience without leading to binges, they might be worth trying.

I tried making oopsies yesterday and though they looked lovely mine tasted more like mini-omelettes than bread. Good yes, but still omelettish.

Quitting pop.

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I have realized with the amount of pop I drink that it is not a good choice for me. I have not had any pop since before the weekend and am drinking water instead. I have found when I was drinking pop I never drank water. I am posting to try to keep myself accountable. No more pop for me.

smoking and quitting

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

I am ashamed to admit that I continue to smoke not only because it has become a habit and an addiction, but I smoke to keep the weight off. I want to quit, but I don’t want to put on weight. Any advice from any quitters? My BF quit on New Year’s day, but he is eating everything in sight. I am trying to lose weight now, and then quit, so if I gain weight back, it won’t be so bad.

Quitting Smoking?

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Hey guys, I don’t post here much but I do come read every day-several times a day!

I have a question for those who have quit smoking….did you gain weight when you stopped even staying LC? I am comfortable in my WOE now and want to seriously quit smoking but I am scared to death of the weight issue. I need to lose some more and I already have hit that slow down on the scale so I am ok with it staying slow-I just don’t want to gain any of that weight back.

I have set a goal for myself to quit on June 5 and am doing a lot of research on the best way for me to do this. I may quit sooner but I figure I will give myself some time to completely wrap my head around it all and get myself a game plan.

Thanks in advance! Y’all are wonderful!

Quitting after this pack….

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

I have finally decided enough is enough. I have decided to quit smoking after this pack. I quit in July of 2005 and then restarted in July 2006. I was smokefree for a year. Why I restarted? Who knows? I am so sick. I loved my smokefree year and would like for it to continue the rest of my life. I’ll finish the pack today and pray to God that I can do this. What have you all done to kick the habit? Please I need all the advice I can get. Thanks for listening.

Quitting Smoking & Weight Gain….

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

What are you quitters doing to help keep the post smoking weight down….

I first discovered Atkins when I put on 20lbs+ giving up smoking with hypnotherapy in 2000. With a few false starts I lost some of the weight and then after I started smoking again a year or so after stopping I lost all the weight – a mix of Atkins and nicotine!

I have now spent a good two years at a consistent weight, keeping up Atkins WOE.

I have now given up smoking again (and for ever) – with hypnotherapy – 2 weeks ago (really easy) but have already put on 4lbs!

Today I put myself back on induction (harder than stopping smoking……)

Does anyone have any good ideas….
