Heavy Cream…can too much be bad?

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Hi, I am new to Atkins…got the Atkins for Life book and have ordered the Atkins New Diet Revolution. Until my other book comes in…I have to ask about the heavy cream. It is really good mixed with diet sugar free cocoa…a little too good LOL. I noticed even though it has no carbs it is awfully high in calories. I had about a half cup today and yesterday and it really satisfied my sweet cravings. Can all of the calories hurt my weight loss though? Just checking before I end up drinking the whole carton this week LOL.

Thanks!
Erin

Too many coconut oil choices!

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I bought some coconut oil at Walmart, brand name Louana. It’s tasteless and I’ve been drinking it in a cup of hot chicken broth and so far so good. I would really like to get some that smells and tastes like coconut. There’s so many choices on that big online auction place I like to shop on that I can’t make up my mind. Can someone give me a specific kind? Something like so and so’s expeller pressed… or maybe the choice should be someones virgin! I’m so confused!

Do you think you can work out too hard?

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I just got home from Curves, and I think I am going to die! Lol! No seriously, they have this thing called Curves Smart, and it sets a target for each of the machines that you workout on. Well, I misunderstood and thought that I was suppose to exceed the green light on each machine and make it flash. Half way through the workout, I thought I was going to die, literally! I couldnt breath and felt dizzy. I had to completely stop the circuit for a couple minutes to try and get control of my body. So after the workout I put my card that keeps track of the workout in the computer and it said that I burned 456 calories. Monday I only burned 326. The owner came over and said that Friday, I need to slow it down so that the card will set a lower target for me, because I progressed too much in such a short time.

So, anyway, that got me thinking. On shows like the Biggest Loser they exercise like 8hrs a day at high intensity. And while my muscles were not complaining from my workout today, my breathing and heart rate were through the roof. So, do you all think that you can workout too hard? Or too much? Or should you push yourself to your limit every workout?

am i eating too much? judge me, please?

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Ok, I feel like after reading what people are eating, maybe I am eating too much. I’m going to post a sample of my daily menu, would you mind letting me know what you think, or what I am doing wrong?

Breakfast:
3 scrambled eggs
3 slices bacon
1 cup mixed (frozen) vegges– mushrooms/broccoli/green beans (stir-fried in 1 tsp butter)

Lunch:
Tuna Salad (1 lrg can tuna (like a cup), w/ red pepper flakes, pepper, 2 tablespoons mayo)

Snack:
Deli-meat ham slice (1g net carb) w/ a tablespoon cream cheese
or a couple oz of cheddar cheese

Dinner:
Sirloin filet (salt/pepper, grilled)
2 cups broccoli (Steamed, with a tablespoon of butter)

I drink a LOT of liquids during the day. Usually about 2-3 liters of water, and 3-4 diet sodas— I know, very bad, it’s one thing I just can’t give up….

Occasionally, I will have a bacardi/diet coke.

I work out 45-60 minutes. 45 minutes incline walking (4.0mph/7.5 incline), and some ab work, moderate upper body (I recently had surgery on my "upper body", so I can’t do much work up there)

Please criticize, advise, etc.

UK study: Diabetes drugs given ‘too soon’

Saturday, March 14th, 2009
Quote:
One in three people with type 2 diabetes are given medication too soon, instead of being urged to eat better and do more exercise, a study suggests.

A study of 650 people in south west England found 36% were put on tablets within a month of being diagnosed, a Diabetes UK conference heard.

But guidelines recommend first trying lifestyle changes to control diabetes.

Rest of the story here.

Do you think this is about doctors just not trusting us? They don’t trust us to actually eat better, stop smoking, work out, stop drinking, or whatever it is we do that’s made us ill when we show up and expect them to fix it for us.

How much soybean oil is considered too much?

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

I was thinking about this, and I am curious about this subject. How much, micrograms, milligrams, grams is considered too much Omega-6? Would a Omega-9 counteract it when taken together? I am curious what others say about this topic of Omegas, affects, and ratios.
