Vegetarian and LC – HELP me please~

Hi,

I have been waffling about this for quite a while and really need some help.

First wondered where do most people that are here that are veggie, post?

Is there a forum for veggies doing LC? If not it sure would be great.

I want to stop the meat and all the fat for a while to work on my liver/gall bladder.

I want to stay as LC as possible because last time I did this the fruit I was eating caused very bad cravings.

I could really use some help.
What do you eat (can’t do cheese right now) besides soy (can’t have that either!) for protein? Beans, I am wondering if they are too high carb?

I can do eggs – but I can’t think of anything else?

Can anyone help?

I need meal ideas. I am really frustrated.
Besides salads (which I love – and will have one every day for lunch) what can I do for breakfasts and dinners?

I am really desperate.

Not sure how to post the links, but you might try a search for my username plus "vegetarian" – I’ve posted a few things you might find helpful, especially in the thread started by spindrift.

Hope that’s a start; I usually try to chime in on any vegetarian LC threads if I see one, or you can PM me if I might be able to help with other ideas.

All I did was followed DANDR Induction; subbing the meat for the lowest carb meat replacement I could find at the time.

I changed over to VLC and egg fasting close to goal. Find this easiest, most enjoyable and ….low maintenance!

not saying that is for everyone or anything

I didnt cut dairy or anything like that until the past couple months when I have reduced it down.

Hope that helps as a starting point anyways!

daisyhair, I re-read your original post, and it made me think of my vegetarian friend who has lost quite a bit of weight (not sure what size she started, but her size 8 jeans are now getting loose). She did not do Atkins or actually any formal "low carb" plan. But, she did cut out sugar, grains, bread, pasta and rice. She calls her WOE more along the lines of a Mediterranean diet. She still eats beans, and (now) occasionally some rice. She doesn’t, but can you eat fish? (also very LC, but not fatty and would open up a protein option). She and her DH limited dairy, stopped using butter, and use olive oil. HTH some.

    Hi Angie,

This is the way I am leaning.
    Thanks for the info.
I can eat fish, it’s just hard for me to find good, wild caught fish. I do see it from time to time.

I know that if I cut fat I have to raise my carbs a bit and so beans may be good.
I will have to experiment. I just know I can’t do hardcore Atkins right now, all the fat is really doing me in (Fitday has me at 75% fat).

    Thank you again Angie~

My apologies. I missed the part about the gallbladder.

I’m not sure that going lowfat lowcarb vegetarian will help with gallbladder issues. It only helps prevent the symptoms in SOME people, but not always. I know that when I was having gallbladder issues before I got it yanked out, eating was a crapshoot. I could never know what the hell was triggering the attacks. I could sail through a fatty ribeye dinner one day, and have the worst pain after a packet of instant oatmeal. Or vice-versa.

Good luck, and I hope you find relief.
